Quet Lang Festival of Xa Pho ethnic group is held in the second lunar month. According to the concept of the Xa Pho, February is a ghostly mausoleum coming to the village to ruin the people so they have to organize Quet Lang Festivals so that the new year is peaceful, lush flowers and livestock grow. Before the festival, the heads of the families in the village meet at the village’s oldest residence to prepare the festival.
At the beginning of the festival, each villager carried a bowl of rice, a chicken, wine, incense to the bare land in the village for kills and ceremonies. Those who bring goats, dogs and pigs to contribute, the villagers have the responsibility to pay for that home a day. By the appointed day, all the men in the village would bring all the gifts to a bare land at the head of the village and the fast and healthy men will slaughter pigs, chickens, goats, dogs … to prepare for the ceremony. The master of the festival (the wizard) will hold a wooden sword in his hand, a small branch of peach leaves, rub soot on the face and then comes to each hamlet to perform the house-cleaning ceremony for the whole village. When coming into one’s house, the wizard will pour out a cup of wine and put it onto the altar of the family, and mumble the names of all members in that family. After that he takes on the wooden sword and brandish around the house, the family assigns a member to follow the wizard and use corn seeds (grilled corn) to throw over the head of the wizard.
The ceremony of Chau Que Thuong is different. That day, the master will worship the owner in the village each person holding a bamboo shoots just knocked and the master will read the vow before the participants will have to draw your face is gripping. When the master says, everyone will dance together and beat the pipes into the walls of each house.
