Situated in the far north of the country, Ha Giang Province is a province containing the northernmost point of Vietnam. Sharing a 270 km long border with the southern China, this province is considered as the final frontier of Vietnam. Similar to Sapa, the many noble mountains are the most renowned attraction of Ha Giang. Even though not being as high as the mountains of Sapa and not tending to be steep enough to test these adventurous climbers, the mountains in Ha Giang stand out for enormous area of limestone with special formation of peaky rocks. Recognized as one of 77 geological parks in the world by UNESCO, Dong Van Rock Plateau is the most famous rocky area of Ha Giang. Lying inside Dong Van Rock Plateau, marking the very northern peak of Vietnam by Lung Cu Flag Tower on Dragon Mountain, Lung Cu Hamlet is another necessary destination. In addition, a large number of fanciful natural caves including Phuong Thien Cave, Chui Cave, Fairy Cave and Swallow Cave also help to create the grandiose beauty of Ha Giang. Another attraction of Ha Giang is its spectacular forests, where you can find more than 1,000 species of precious woods, drug trees together with many kinds of animals such as tigers, peacock or pangolin.
Hmong, Tay, Dao and Nung ethnic groups occupy the majority of ethnic minorities living in this mountainous province. Each of them has its own stunning custom in term of religious belief, wedding, festivals and funeral. Khau Vai Love Market, which is held monthly only on the 26th and 27th of a Lunar Year, is a unique place that you only can see in Ha Giang. Being the time when ethnic minorities hold a wide variety of traditional customs including celebrating success, sons ritual, rain ritual, medieval bow shooting competition, pan-pie performance or “Con” throwing contest, Lunar New Year is thought to be the best time to visit Ha Giang.
