Quang Binh is a province in the North Central Coast of Vietnam. With an area of 8,065.8 square kilometers and population of 857,818 inhabitants, the province is one of the popular stops of foreign and Vietnamese travelers every year. It shares the border with Laotian province in the west, East Sea, Ha Tinh Province in the north and Quang Tri Province in the south. Its famous landscapes include Phong Nha Cave – Ke Bang, Nhat Le beach and so on.
With 2 beautiful beaches with blue water, yellow sand like Nhat Le and Da Nhay, Quang Binh attracts thousands tourists coming to visit every year. Especially, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park has been recognized as the World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003. Located at the north of the majestic Truong Son range in central Quang Binh province is one of the world’s two largest limestone regions of 14 caves inside the limestone mountain created by the river underground with the length nearly 14.000 meter .
Phong Nha – Ke Bang is home to archeological and historical relics, such as an ancient hieroglyphic script of the Cham ethnic minority, King Ham Nghi’s base built for the resistance war against French colonialists in the late 19th century, and the Xuan Son ferry station, Ho Chi Minh Trail and Road 20 used during the US resistance war.
As a cultural hub, today Quang Binh has a large collection of both tangible and intangible cultural values of North-South and East-West. Nowaday, the province has 99 historical and cultural monuments, including 51 monuments at national level, 48 monuments at provincial level and more than 70 festivals, among which 2 festivals at provincial level: Boi Trai (Boating) in Dong Hoi and Le Thuy, Ho Khoan tune of Le Thuy district, Minh Hoa full moon festival on March 15 (lunar calendar). There are more than 10,000 artifacts, including many valuable artifacts of prehistoric, which are preserved in the provincial museum. Especially is Ca Tru (sing Tru) in Dong Duong village, Quang Phuong commune, Quang Trach district. It’s a cultural values which is recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Quang Binh has also Gianh river, a mournful evidence of a period of whirligig of Dang Trong and Dang Ngoai (the separate south and north regions), the fierce battle in the two national defense wars and the home to eminent people like: Dr.Duong Van An, Le Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh, General Vo Nguyen Giap…
Quang Binh has many historical relics revolutionary Ho Chi Minh Trail such as Heaven Gate, Khe Gat, Eight Voluntary Youth Cave, historical system ATP (the turning point with the curve shaping A, Tale tunnel, Phu La Nhich Pass) on the Quyet Thang Road No. 20, Xuan Son ferry, Long Dai bridge, Quan Hau …. the West of Quang Binh is home to many minority ethnics such as Bru – Van Kieu and Chut still preserved many unique traditional cultural features of both tangible and intangible cultural values, is the valuable humanistic tourism resources for Quang Binh to tourism development.
